How it Works
How does the Hair Removal Work?
For hair removal we want melanin absorption. The light has to travel down into the dermis so that it is absorbed by melanin in the shaft, bulge and papilla area of the deepest terminal hairs as well as the shallower vellus hairs. Treatment is applied by placing a hand-held treatment unit on your skin.
In order for the procedure to work at all there must be some pigmentation in the hair so the energy can be absorbed. For this reason it is more difficult to obtain good clearance in grey and white hairs, although satisfactory results can be obtained for red and naturally blonde hair in many cases if any pigment is present.
For this treatment hair needs to be shaved so there is no surface hair to be visible otherwise the light will be attracted into the surface hair, burning it, and possibly causing superficial skin burns from the burnt hair lying on the skin.
After treatment, the hairs will take up to 2 weeks to loosen from the damaged follicle then they will shed out. This shedding process can take a few weeks to complete
We should not regard this treatment as “permanent”. Permanent hair reduction is what is usually used to describe it. Hair that is going to stop the re-growing will usually do so within the 4-6 treatments. This could be any amount from 50 to 90%. There is often some residual hair growth returning, but it is finer, lighter and much slower to re-growth. However in comparison with all others a method of hair removal, pulsed light comes out on top, but it must be stressed that it is a course of treatment.
This process raises the temperature of the hair follicle to the coagulation point, thereby damaging the hair follicle and delaying or preventing further growth.
On average 6-10 sessions will be inter-spaced by 5-6 week intervals each. However, due to hair growth delay seen usually around the third or fourth session, intervals between treatments may last longer between the last session*
* The number of treatments may vary according to skin and hair type. More treatments may be required after you have completed your package treatments.

Treatment Considerations
Pre-Treatment Preparations
- During the first visit a medical history including current medications and/or treatments is required. The treatment will be discussed in detail with you to ensure realistic expectations. Hair must be visible to the aesthetician on the day.
- The power setting will be based on your skin type and hair characteristics.
- The area will be cleaned and dried ready for treatment. For all follow up treatments, you must shave the area being treated the same day or the night before, waxing is not permitted as this will stimulate the hair growth.
- The treatment area will be exposed to the short flashes of light, similar to a camera flash. Before flashing, the head of the system is applied gently onto the skin without any pressure, then the head emits both light and heat energy through with each flash, which lasts for 35 milli-seconds.
- Treatment flash frequency will be controlled by our trained Practitioners and can be stopped at any time upon request.
- All pigmented moles and beauty spots will be covered.
Post Treatment
- Avoid any exposure to the sun on the treated area including solariums. Do not wax on the treated area, shaving is permitted between treatments. If redness, blistering or swelling occurs apply 100% Aloe Vera gel.
Pregnancy
- It is recommended not to undertake this treatment if you are pregnant. If you fall pregnant during the course of the treatment please inform the Practitioner.
